Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year
Dear Catskill Families,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I am thrilled to be welcoming your children back to school. We have eagerly anticipated the full reopening of our campus. Our continued commitment to fostering perseverance, resilience, empathy, grit and the ability to communicate effectively in diverse learning partnerships will undoubtedly help our students thrive socially emotionally and academically.
We will continue working diligently to meet the diverse needs of our students through small group instruction across all grade levels. Our deliberate work to instill tools for self-regulation and emotional wellness will carry on through lessons by our teachers and support staff.
Catskill Avenue is a place where staff and families come together to ensure our children grow to be productive, confident, compassionate members of our community.
First Day of School- August 16th-Gates will open at 7:45. For health and safety reasons-only students will be allowed on campus. We will have classroom assignments posted outside the school with your child’s room number. We will have personnel to help your child find their room.

Let’s put this year behind us! It has been quite a ride and with all that we’ve been through, we came out on top. I’ve been so proud of our efforts as a school. Everyone that is part of Catskill Elementary should be extremely happy that we survived this year and made the best of all of the challenges.
This is a special place. Our teachers and staff made it a mission to ensure that no matter what, we were going to educate your children to the best of our abilities each and every day. They succeeded and so did our students. The kids overcame a lot and they will remember this year when they look back on their education.
Children and teachers never met a task they were able to overcome and they did with flying colors.
To our lunch staff - thank you for working hard to feed our children.
To our custodial staff - thank you for moving things around-here, there, and it seemed like everywhere.
To our staff - thank you for being willing to help out whenever needed and doing it with a smile.
To our office staff - thank you for keeping things organized and running smoothly. Mrs. Romo we will miss you but wish you the best in your retirement.
To our teachers - thank you for being the absolute rock stars each and every day.
To our parents, grandparents, and guardians - thank you for supporting us every step of the way.
To our children - you will remember this year and what you went through - you did awesome!
May we live, laugh, and learn together..Have a safe and fun summer and see you on August 16th!
Dear Catskill Families
I hope all of you were able to meet with your child’s teacher during conference week. It’s important to be active in your child’s education. I encourage you to be vigilant in monitoring your child’s assignments/grades through Schoology.
For those that have chosen to have your child return to in-person learning, we are excited about the progress that we have made with our Responsible Return Plan. We look forward to welcoming your child back to school. While there have been struggles, I feel confident that we are on a path toward a greater sense of normalcy.
For those that will remain on distance learning, remember to maintain a consistent school routine. If your child is having trouble with their device, please contact the school immediately so they can continue with their learning.
I want to wish everyone a very happy and restful upcoming Spring Break! I encourage all of our students, teachers, and families to use this break time as a time to relax and enjoy their days off from school.
Stay positive. We are all in this together and we will emerge from this stronger than before.
Dear Catskill Families,
I hope this finds all of you safe and healthy. When we hear that schools are closed, that’s not entirely true. Our school buildings may be closed but our teachers, staff, and students have been working hard in their virtual classroom. It took time to adjust to online learning but all stakeholders are doing their best to continue with your child’s education. Consistent attendance while distance learning is a must.
As you follow the news, you are aware that reopening of schools has been highly discussed. Superintendent Buetner has weekly updates on Monday mornings on our LAUSD website to discuss the progress of returning to school.
February marks the beginning of Black History Month. Throughout the month students will engage in lessons and activities to acknowledge the contributions of Black Lives in America. We hope these lessons and activities will give our students opportunities to explore their role as a social justice agent in the work towards justice, equality and fairness.
As we approach our 100th day of school, I feel confident that we are on a path toward a greater sense of normalcy. I would like to thank our students, parents, community members, and staff for all of their support during these challenging times. As we continue to move forward, I encourage parents to be vigilant in monitoring their child’s academic progress as well as their social emotional health.
I want to reiterate my gratitude for your continued support and wish you and your family good health and good spirits.
